“Epithet after epithet was found too weak to convey to those who have not visited the intertropical regions, the sensations of delight which the mind experiences…. The land is one great wild, untidy luxuriant hothouse, made by nature for herself.”
– Charles Darwin, Voyage of the Beagle
If you have ever visited the tropics, it can be quite an experience to try and take in the number of striking, intricately structured plant species growing around you. Layers of bryophytes and epiphytes festoon the trunks of trees and hang suspended from their branches. Large terrestrial-growing species stretch out toward angled rays of light that break into the gloom of the forest understory. The complexity – the sheer abundance – is almost overwhelming.
To help you recreate this stunning display of plant diversity and bring these types of scenes closer to home, we have teamed up with select plant growers to offer curated, limited edition collections of vivarium-ready species, many of which feature specimens that the growers rarely offer for public sale. We call these packages The Collector’s Reserve, and they are available only to owners of InSitu Ecosystems vivariums.
Reserve 09-2020 is made available through Verdant Vivariums. This package features species primarily found in Ecuador and Peru, and includes one specimen or cutting of the following plants:
Pilea cf. imparifolia ‘Ecuador’
Nautilocalyx cf. ecuadorensis
Triolena cf. Ecuador
Migrogramma sp. ‘Ecuador’
Pearcea hypocyrtiflora ‘White’
Marcgravia umbellale ‘Pink’
Marcgravia sp. ‘Copper’
Assorted tropical mosses & liverworts
