Description

AZOO NO3 Test
For freshwater, aquatic plant, saltwater, reef aquariums and ponds

Nitrate is the final product when bacteria decompose protein.
It is also the product when nitrifying bacteria oxidate NH3, to NO2.
The resource of NO3 is from fishes’ waste, residual food, and dead fishes.
NO3 is also the nutrient resource of algae.  When NO3 level is too high,
it will result in heavy algae growth.  It also will inhibit aquatic plant’s
uptake of Ca, Mg, and Fe, and cause the malnutrition of aquatic plants.
Therefore, NO3 values should be maintained below 5 mg/l in aquatic plant aquariums.

ANALYSIS:
1. Obtain the reading value of the test result by comparing with the calibration
on the first line of the color chart 0, 5, 10, 20, 40 mg/l.
2. If the tested value exceeds 40 mg/l, please dilute 5ml of testing water with
5ml of purified water.  After shaking, leave 5 mal of the water in the sample vial,
then repeat the same testing procedure.  Obtain the reading value resulting from
this repeated test by comparing with the second line on the color chart:
0, 10, 20, 40, 80 mg/l.
3. If the tested value exceeds 80 mg/l, dilute 5ml of testing water
with 15ml of purified water.  After shaking, leave 5ml of the water in the sample vial,
then repeat the same testing procedure.  Obtain the reading value resulting from
this repeated test by comparing with the third line on the color chart:
0, 20, 40, 80, 160 mg/l.
4. If the tested value exceeds 160 mg/l, please dilute 2ml of testing water
with 18ml of pure water.  After shaking, leave 5ml of the water in the sample vial,
then repeat the same testing procedure.  Obtain the reading value resulting from
this repeated test by comparing with the fourth line on the color chart:
0, 50, 100, 200, 400 mg/l.  Hence, the maximum testable level can reach 400 mg/l.
5. If the tested value exceeds 400 mg/l, please have a partial water change to
improve the water quality.  NO3 had better be maintained below 5 mg/l in aquatic
plant aquariums.
